About Zaner Ross
Zaner Wightman Ross (Zink to childhood friends) passed peacefully through the veil on June 10, 2009 of natural causes in Salt Lake City, Utah, having served 90 years here on earth. He was born December 14, 1918 in Salt Lake City to Harriet Sophia Wightman and Milton Hurlock Ross. After surviving diphtheria at age six, he was given a Lionel train, and trains have been a passionate hobby every since. He graduated from South High School and LDS Seminary. Served two years in the Central States Mission and two and a half years for his country in the navy during World War II aboard the USS Whitney. He married his angel, Orpha Terry, on February 27, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death after 51 years of happiness. Survived by children Carolyn (David) Bird, Terry, Brenda (Richard) Hinckley and Neil (Destiny; 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and sister, Ruth Ross Magelby. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Interment: Alpine City Cemetery, 400 North Grove Drive. Published in the Deseret News on 6/12/2009.
