About Xenia Jones
Published in The Fincastle Herald, October 19, 1988. Xenia Jones (Mrs. Jesse W.), 82 died October 12, 1988. She was born February 6, 1906, in Czarist Russia and was orphaned with her brothers and sister in early childhood. As an 11-year-old child in 1917, she escaped ahead of the Communist armies during the Russian Revolution leaving behind family, friends and all possessions. For the next 20 years she managed to survive, along with thousands of other Russian refugees in Manchurian and China. She and her husband, a career Navy man serving in the Asiatic fleet, met in Shanghia in 1937. By 1940, she had received a visa to enter the United States and they were married in San Francisco. During the years of World War II while her husband was on sea duty, she was employed by Consolidated Air Craft Company in San Diego and obtained her American citizenship. After the war, she and her husband lived in various naval duty stations in the United States until 1948 when he retired and they built a home in Buchanan. As an Orthodox Christian from early childhood, she was a supporter of Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a member. Her only known survivor is her husband Jesse. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 14, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. Memorial remembrances may be made to the Altar Guild of Trinity Episcopal Church, Buchanan. Arrangements were by Radar Funeral Home, Buchanan.
