About William Small
A Litchfield man was listed by state policy today at the 58th traffic fatality in Litchfield sub district of l972 after being overcome by an apparent heart attack on an icy country road southwest of here at 2:50pm Monday. William y. Small, 60 last September 12th, of 311 Lincoln Street, was driving wast on the road leading from Trinity Lutheran Church in Cahokia Twp about a mile south of IL 16 and 2.7 miles west of US 66 when his car went off the road and along the ditch to strike a fence post. Mr. Small was both in Litchfield, son of the late William D. and Edna L. Youell Small. He was educated in the local schools and until retiring a year ago was employed as a driver by Calcari Distributing Co. He married Miss Oma Compton, Ya 22, 1933 at Hillsboro. He was a navy veteran of WWII. Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Shirley, wife of Norman Rull of Litchfield rural route with three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jame and Julie Rull. He also leave a brother, Lee David "Buck" Small of Seminole, FL and 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Campbell and Mrs. Evelyn Bridges both of Litchfield. Mr. Small was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, National Sheriffs Association, Moose Lodge, VFW Post and ATA and was an honorary life member of the volunteer fireman. Services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Ross Funeral Home. Rev. LaVon Bayler officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Following the committal service, the flag was folded by George Gorin and David Allen and presented to Mrs. Small. Pallbearers were Jesse Beanblossom, Springfield; Ralph Cranford; Al Faris; Ted Meier Sr.; Al Mueller and Bernard Tabaka.
