About William Biehl

William George 'Bill' Biehl, 84, of Logansport, Indiana, passed away on August 2. Bill, the oldest child of George and Josephine (Aschenbrenner) Biehl, was born on March 28, 1938, in Reading, PA. Bill was 6'4" and played basketball for Muhlenberg Township High School, where he graduated in 1955. He attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA where he met Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Newbold in 1958. Their first date consisted of a tennis game and burnt pizza. A year later, Bill graduated with a degree in Chemistry. After college he began his career in the Portland cement industry with Lehigh Cement. While beginning his career, he was drafted into the US Army and was stationed at the Army Chemical Center near Baltimore, MD. While in service he married Betty in 1962 and this past June was their 60th anniversary. Returning from the Army, Bill worked in several locations for Lehigh including Allentown, PA, Woodsboro, MD, and Mason City, IA. During these years Bill and Betty welcomed Barbara (Carl Schafer), Beverly (deceased), and Brian. In 1973, Bill joined Louisville Cement and moved to Logansport as Plant Engineer. In 1977 he left for Kaiser Cement in San Antonio TX. The stay in Texas was short, as nine months later, Louisville Cement offered Bill the Plant Manager's position in Logansport. Bill retired in the early 1990's and continued to call Logansport home. Bill was active in the community. He was president of the board for Woodlawn Center, United Way, Red Cross, and The Cass County Community Foundation. He was also a United Way Campaign chairman and on the board of the Performing Arts Council of Logansport. He was a member of Rotary and his family enjoyed hosting three foreign exchange students. Bill's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving and having a table surrounded by family which grew to include his grandchildren, Roman, Kristie, George, and Hannah. He always enjoyed spending time and teasing his sister Linda Marie Snyder (Kenny) and nieces, Jackie Jackson and Julie Snyder (deceased) as well as great-niece Annie. Bill will be buried at Middletown Friends Cemetery in Langhorne, PA at a later date. Published by Reading Eagle from Aug. 5 to Aug. 6, 2022.
