About Wayne Stuber

Wayne Charles Stuber, age 72, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 20, 1950, to the late Charles and Vivian (Voie) Stuber in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Wayne attended Eleva-Strum High School for three years until transferring to Mondovi High School, where he graduated in 1968. After graduation, he went to Chippewa Valley Technical College where he majored in Diesel Mechanics. When finishing college, he was drafted into the United States Army where he was sent overseas to serve in the Vietnam War where he was part of the 544th Engineer Company. In 1972, when Wayne was honorably discharged, he held the rank as Sergeant and received three decorations/medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal With 2 Stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medal With 60 Device. After being discharged, Wayne started working as a diesel mechanic at Mondovi Implement, which fueled his passion for John Deere tractors. While working as a mechanic, he also drove semi-truck for Mondovi Implement to transport tractors. While he was living in Mondovi, he met the love of his life and his future bride, Pat Lunde. They later married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elroy, Wisconsin on September 6, 1975. Wayne and Pat raised three boys and later settled in Viroqua in 1985, where they now call home. When they moved to Viroqua, Wayne had a couple of sales jobs until he embarked on his career as a truck driver for Roehl Transport in 1995, for 18 years until he started driving for Pehler and Sons until he retired in 2017. After he retired, Wayne enjoy spending time at Wildwood Resort in Chetek where they held a permanent camping site, taking time to travel with Pat on his "get lost" adventures, and fishing with his boys and grandchildren, especially their yearly guys weekend trip. Wayne was patient when it came to teaching his grandchildren to fish. He had a few hobbies which included making bird houses, frames for Pat's photos, and fishing. Wayne also was happy to have many conversations with his grandchildren about John Deere. Wayne is survived by his wife of 47 years, sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, siblings and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, his father and mother-in-law and brothers-in-law. Wayne's family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Tami Saleska at the Veterans Service Office. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Moen Church) on County Road PC. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Wayne will be laid to rest at the Moen Cemetery with a lunch at the church to follow.
