About Walter Dozier
Walter Jessie Dozier May 23, 1941 - April 19, 2023 Mr. Walter Jessie Dozier, age 81, passed away April 19, 2023, at his residence in Greene County. A native of Arkansas, he was born May 23, 1941, the son of Walter Jessie Dozier and Alice Lillian Leland Dozier. A veteran, he retired from a full career with the US Army at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following retirement, he did not sit idle but went to work with Harvey Enterprises in Kinston, working first for many years as mechanic with the former East Coast Equipment (John Deere dealership) in Kinston. Upon retiring from that career, he continued to run the well-known fruit and produce stand on Highway 70 next to Tidewater Transit. Mr. Dozier attended Liberty Baptist Church in Snow Hill until his health and that of his wife began to decline. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Martina Dozier; and siblings, Lela Mae Bogard, Beadie Bogard, Carolyn Hernard, and Bill "Wick" Dozier. His surviving family include his wife, Lannie Jones Dozier; daughter, Annie Irene Dozier; son, Walter J. Dozier, Jr.; grandchildren, Jessie Anton Shervey and Christopher Douglas Shervey; brother, Robert Leon Dozier; sisters-in-law, Christine McKinley and Patsy Dozier; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, May 2nd, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Pastor Rusty Conyers officiating. Military Honors will be rendered as well recognizing his career in the US Army.
