About Virginia Haag

From Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home: VIRGINIA ARDEN HAAG "RUSTY" 12/10/1928 - 7/11/2020 Virginia Arden Haag, also known as "Rusty" to all her family and many friends, became an Angel in Heaven on July 11, 2020. Rusty was born to Glenn W. Zellner and Rubye I. (Moore) Zellner in Shreveport, Louisiana, on December 10, 1928. Rusty was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Frank D. Zellner of Shreveport, Louisiana. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 wonderful years, Melvin Otto “Squeaky” Haag of Boerne; a daughter, Christine “Chris” Lyssy and husband Kenneth L. Lyssy of Boerne; a grandson, Cullen Wayne Hopkins of Boerne; a granddaughter, Jennifer Arden Hundley and husband Dr. George Wade Hundley, Jr. of Boerne; two great-grandchildren, Emma G. Hundley and Sawyer R. Hundley; sister, Carol Zellner of Studio City, California; brother and sisters-in-law, Doris Ann Zellner, Allen and Mary Jane Zuercher, Janice Haag, and Alice Dowdy; many loved nieces and nephews; a very special friend who was like a sister, Robbie Burnside of Harrisonville, Missouri; and numerous special friends that she considered family. Rusty, a dark auburn-haired beauty (which is how she acquired the nickname that would follow her for life), graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. Life's journey brought her to Boerne, Texas, where she would live the remainder of her life and marry the love of her life, Melvin, on July 15, 1960. Rusty and Melvin shared a special life together including many years of bowling at the Boerne Turn Verein, competing in tournaments, traveling to many different cities to participate in National Bowling Championships in Las Vegas, Reno and many others, and bowling in Texas Ten Pin and Nine Pin. Rusty, a very good bowler, consistently held an average that would make most of her competitors envious. Rusty had a long career in Cosmetology, serving lots of customers who depended on her to make them "beautiful". She was a master at Crochet and Knit, making beautiful Afghans and doilies which she lovingly gave away to loved ones and friends over the years. After retiring from cosmetology, she was the manager at Boerne Video Store until she retired. The other loves in her life over the years were her many "fur babies". She always had one or two at any given time. Needless to say, they were spoiled rotten, but she loved them with all of her heart. She did have one other nickname given to her late in life by her two special great-grandchildren, Emma and Sawyer. They always knew when they came to visit that she would have chocolate chip cookies for them so she quickly became "Cookie Granny". In 2001, Rusty and Melvin built a new custom home on Chris and Ken's place in Boerne and that is where, in retirement, she made her little garden paradise. With so many flowers and plants, they had to build a 6' fence around the yard to keep those pesky deer away. Rusty was blessed with a long and healthy life of 91 years, 7 months and 1 day when she suddenly, but peacefully passed from this earth to be with her Lord in Heaven. We will miss her terribly, but we were so blessed to have her in our lives and will always remember the great memories from all o those wonderful years. God Bless you Mom! We love you! A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Boerne City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wanting to give a tribute for Rusty, please make a donation to the Hill Country Animal League of Boerne at 115 W. Bandera Rd., Boerne, TX 78006 or www.hcaltx.org in Rusty's name.
