Virgil M. Nagel

Virgil Nagel, 96, of Boonville, passed away at Boone Hospital Center on Friday, April 17, 2015. Visitation for Mr. Nagel will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Monday evening, April 20th, from 5:00 until 7:00 o’clock with a prayer service at 5:00. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 21st, with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Virgil M. Nagel was born Oct. 1, 1918 in Salisbury, MO the son of Frank Nagel and Theresa Gladback Nagel. He graduated from Salisbury High School and on Oct. 17, 1942 he married the love of his life, Ruby Edwards, in Chicago, IL. He served his country during WW II with the U. S. Air Force from July of 1942 until Feb. of 1946. He had worked for Interstate Brands Bakery until his retirement after thirty one years. Virgil enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty with family and friends. In 1926 he got hooked on Cardinal Baseball during the world series and had not missed a game, either on radio or television since. That added up to eighty eight years of loyal support. He also kept up with Mizzou sports. Virgil was a devout member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree Knight. He enjoyed playing ten point pitch with his friends at the Eagles Lodge and was a member of the local American Legion. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby in 1987and by six brothers. He is survived by one sister, Elvira Vogt of Highland, IL: by his children; Richard Nagel of Jeff City, Mark Nagel of Boonville and Phyllis (Jim) Lambert, of Columbia. Three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be directed to SS Peter and Paul Church.
