About Verna Lohman

Verna M. Lohman, 91, went home to heaven peacefully on August 26, 2022. The family will greet visitors on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 6-8pm at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 NW RD Mize Road, Blue Springs, MO. A Celebration of Life Service for Verna will occur at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022, also at Timothy Church, followed by a Christian burial in Blue Springs Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Memories of Verna and words of comfort may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com Verna was born on January 10, 1931, into the family of Henry and Hulda (Nierman) Becker, the fourth of five children, at the family farm near Concordia, MO. She was baptized in March 1931 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia, where she also received her formal Christian education at St. Paul's Lutheran School. She was confirmed in her Christian faith on April 2, 1944, also at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Verna graduated from Concordia High School in 1948. Verna married Donald E. Lohman on September 10, 1950. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Diane and Debra. Verna was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. In July 1961, the Lohmans moved to Blue Springs, where her focus concentrated on supporting Don's career at Adams Dairy and later as a New York Life Insurance Company agent, managing the household, and raising their daughters in a larger town with new challenges. Through it all, Verna's strong work ethic and steadfast faith in God laid the foundation as an outstanding role model. The Lohmans were among the founders and charter members of Timothy Lutheran Church in 1962. Verna was an integral leader in Timothy's youth programs, fellowship activities, and women's ministry with the charter of the eventual Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Verna was known for her ready smile, gregarious laugh, sweet personality, willingness to serve others, humble and cheerful attitude, and refusal to complain. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years; two brothers, Norbert and Homer Becker; and one sister, Elva Beerman. Survivors include her daughters, Diane Mayfield (Brad) and Debra Stanley (David); seven grandchildren, Allison Spencer (Dustin), Andy Mayfield (Nikki), Scott Stanley (Joanie), Abby AuBuchon (Derek), Sarah Filipovits (Doug), Tim Stanley, and Gabe Stanley (Yarrow); one brother, Raymond Becker (Rosemary); eleven great-grandchildren, Emma Mayfield, Belle Mayfield, Scarlett Mayfield, Simon Spencer, Samuel Spencer, Luke Filipovits, Harper Filipovits, Isabel Filipovits, Calista Stanley, Gabriel Stanley, and Cora Stanley; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to thank the many employees at Ignite Medical Resort St. Mary's for their compassionate care of Verna since October 2019. Memorials may be designated to Timothy Lutheran Church in Verna Lohman's memory. The Examiner (Independence - Blue Springs - Grain Valley, MO) - Tuesday, August 30, 2022
