Vaughtie Oaten

Vaughtie Helton Oaten, age 95 of Talbott, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at Jefferson Park at Dandridge. She was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church and attended there for 95 years and loved the church with all her heart. On November 23, 1925 she was born to Alexander and Maggie Mae Medlin Helton; she met and married Ralph Oaten on April 14, 1949; their wedding was the first wedding performed by Rev. Calvin Helton. The couple were married 66 years when Ralph passed. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Alice Helton (Dan) Skeen and Evelyn Helton (Bill) Quinton; brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Elizabeth Rippetoe) Helton, Roy (Edith Bales) Helton, David Helton, Jim Helton, Sam "S.G." (Eula Hayes) Helton; brothers-in-law, George (Geneva) Oaten and Lester "Les" Oaten; nieces, Doris Helton Guinn Keister, Linda Shoun Helton, Deana Helton Hux, Sharla Helton Wilson; nephews, Earnest Guinn, Leonard Diamond, and Wayne Helton; great-niece, Sharon Guinn; great-nephew, Bobby Helton; son-in-law, Jim "Hec" Ramsey. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Oaten Ramsey; nieces, Wanda Helton Diamond, Helen Helton (Coy Lynn) Trent, Billie Kay Quinton King, Diane Helton Devotie, Janis Helton Nichols, Diana Oaten, and Martina Oaten; nephew, Billy Buck Helton; sisters-in-law, Anna Oaten and Jan Oaten; great-nieces, Traci Helton (Aaron Brown) Martin, Regina King Lamb, Mae King, Laura Trent (Brent) Hamer, Leslie Hux, Jennifer Wilson, Elaine Devotie; great-nephews, Perry (Mary Ann Dickerson) Helton, Cliff King, Bryan (Christy Setser) Trent, Darrell Wilson, and Bryan Hux; great-great-nieces, Emily Johnson (Phillip) Vinegard, Kelli King, Kara King, Gabbi Martin, Sydney (Joseph) Helton, Shelby Helton, Andee Fitzgerald and Charlie Fitzgerald; great-great-nephew, Jarrid Estes. Visitation will be Friday, August 6, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Alder Funeral Home and funeral services to follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Shane Pierce officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am Saturday August 7, 2021 at Central Baptist Church Cemetery.
