About Valentine Rausch
Valentine Nickols Rausch, the son of Adam and Mary Leonhard Rausch, was born October 22, 1876, in Muscatine, Johnson County, Iowa; and died having been in failing health, October 15, 1961 in Sutherland, Ia. During early youth he moved to Sutherland, and made this his life long home. In 1899, he was married to Miss Stella Norcott. To them were born three sons, and one daughter. On June 2, 1912 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kohn. One son was born to them. Mr. Rausch was engaged in farming and the hog buying business all his life. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith, was a member of the Woodman Lodge and the local Commercial Club. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, and son Francis L. Rausch. Those who survive include his sons, Mr. Roy Rausch of Sterling, Illinois; Mr. Leo Rausch of Ida Grove, Iowa; Mr. Frank Rausch of Paullina, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Erwin (Vernie) Kruger, of Sutherland, Ia.; a step daughter, Mrs. Herman (Iva) Orthmann, of Sutherland, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Cooper, of Spencer, Ia.; Mrs. Lizzie Ginger, of Everly, Ia.; three brothers, Mr. Jake Rausch of Larrabee, la.; Mr. Fred Rausch, of Storm Lake, la.; Mr. Conrad Rausch of Fostoria, Ia.; sixteen grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services under the direction of Baumgartens, were held in the Sutherland Methodist Church, Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 1961, 2 p.m. The Rev. Warren A. Bintz, pastor of the church was in charge. Burial took place in the Waterman cemetery. Sutherland Courier 19 Oct 1977
