Val Gene Bateman

Val Gene Bateman, 72, of Shelley, Idaho, peacefully passed away Sept. 28, 2017, in his home with his loving wife, Lenor Bateman, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Val was born Nov. 3, 1944, in San Marcus, Texas, to LaVal and Vivian Bateman. He grew up in Shoshone and Gooding, Idaho, and moved to New Meadows, Idaho, where he graduated as valedictorian of his class. He attended Links School of Business in Boise, Idaho. He married Vera "Lenor" Antrobus Bauer on July 6, 1964, in Boise, Idaho. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 20, 1966. He was active in the LDS Church in his later life and filled a mission at the Family History Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He worked 43 years in heavy construction for Bateman Brothers, Burgraff, Lim and HK Construction. Val and Lenor had eight beautiful children, seven daughters and one son, 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren arriving soon. Val was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved hunting, steelhead fishing, Native Indian Pow-Wows and Mountainman Rendezvous. He also enjoyed family reunions and spending time with his siblings. Val is survived by his spouse, Vera "Lenor" Bateman; his children, Tauna (Russell) Braiden and Linda (Marvin) Jackman, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Audra Bateman and Jeanna Bateman, both of Shelley, Idaho; Tara (Jon) Goetzel, of Gilbert, Arizona; Janna Bateman, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Steve (Tracey) Bateman, of Casper, Wyoming; and Erika (Ross) Gregersen, of Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Larry (Vickie) Bateman, of Shelley, Idaho; Darla (Pieter Unema) Gill, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Randy (Terry) Bateman, of Buhl, Idaho; and Ronnie (Bonnie) Bateman, of Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Shelley South Stake Building, 675 S. Milton Ave., in Shelley, Idaho. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St., in Shelley, and Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. before service at the church. Graveside service will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, 803-823 Baseline Road in Shelley, Idaho, following the funeral service.
