About Towry Jacks

Towry Jacks, 93, of Winston Salem, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Towry was born on January 25, 1928 in New Market, AL to Norval and Emma Jacks. He grew up in the Elora, Flintville area where he attended school. He had 4 brothers and one sister, surviving him is sister Edna Ruth Todd of Fayetteville and Charles Jacks of Huntland. Towry met Nadeliah (Dee) Prince and after courtship they were married on May 11, 1949. In February 1952, Towry was inducted into the US Army and spent over a year stationed in Japan. Dee couldn't stand the thought of him being so far away for a year plus and decided to sell everything she had and bought a ticket on a freighter and set off for Japan, to surprise Towry. They made it back to the US just in time for Christmas in 1953. Shortly after their return to the States they moved to Riverdale, IL where Towry began a 41-year career and became known as Red Jacks, because of his red hair, working for Hales & Hunter who later became a part of Cargill, Inc. He started working in the feed mill and soon became their Semi Truck delivery driver. After a few years he was promoted to a Territory Manager in Mentone, Indiana. After several very successful years he was offered a new position in Kalamazoo, MI. Towry was very successful because of his dedication to the company, his very likeable personality and the trust of his customers. He was a 3-time Presidents Club member, a very prestigious award in the Cargill organization. Towry and Dee enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Bahamas and most of the States of the US. Along with Travel, they enjoyed tireless hours of gardening together and were constantly improving and enlarging their yard and garden and loved sharing vegetables with their family and friends. Towry and Dee were married for 65 years before Cancer took Dee on December 6, 2014. To that point they were inseparable. Towry was lost after losing Dee and moved to Winston Salem, NC in July 2015 to live with son and daughter-in-law Terry and Sandi Jacks until his death on January 19, 2022. Towry enjoyed being with his Scott Weavil, his step-grandson, Mandi (his wife), and great-granddaughter, Dottie, when they vacationed in North Carolina. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 25th from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by service at 1:00 with Rev. Tim Cole officiating. Burial will be at Clay Cemetery in Princeton.
