Thomas Kenerson Oakes

WEST GARDINER - It is with much sorrow and deepest regret that Thomas Kenerson Oakes, 86, of West Gardiner, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, in his home surrounded by family. Thomas was born in Rangeley, on June 14, 1928, the son of Agis and Lillian Oakes. Thomas was married to his loving wife, Cora Oakes, for 58 years. They lived in West Gardiner and raised two children, Cheryl and Dale Oakes. Thomas worked at Statler Tissue as a mechanic. He enjoyed being outside, he loved watching the birds and the wildlife that came through his backyard. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens. Thomas loved attending sporting events especially his grandchildren's and was known in the community as "Grampie," collecting several plaques and awards over the years. Thomas is survived by his son Dale and wife Darcie Oakes of West Gardiner, daughter Cheryl and husband Michael King of West Gardiner; grandchildren Nicole Oakes and her fiancé Bill Stanley of West Gardiner, Michelle Oakes and her boyfriend Jon Hughes of West Gardiner, Chad Oakes and his girlfriend Kelsey Childs of Standish, Laurie and her husband Carlton Raymond of West Gardiner; great-grandchildren Kyle and Kaylah Raymond and Keegan, Kassidy & Kolby Stanley; along with several nieces, nephews; and cousins. Thomas was predeceased by his loving wife Cora Oakes; his two sisters Geraldine Caine and Anita Fitch; a grandson William Thomas King; and three great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Lainny, Kerrie, Pam, Glenice, Emily, Rene and Elizabeth who took wonderful care of Thomas in his time of need and also a special thanks to Chaplin Jim for all the long talks.
