Sylvia Ieronimo

Our beloved Sylvia (Benevento) Ieronimo, age 108, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 11, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Michael Ieronimo, whom she married on September 18, 1939. The eldest of five children, Sylvia was born in Waterbury on July 3, 1910, daughter of the late Nicholas and Josephine (Tata) Benevento. From an early age, Sylvia learned the importance of family. She leaves behind inherent gifts of sensitivity, compassion, and intense love for her family and will always be known for having her home and heart open to all. She loved to share her Italian traditions and foods. She was known for her delicious eggplant and pasta recipes which she cooked with love and to perfection. Sylvia was completely devoted to her family; she took great care of them all. Her most treasured moments were spent visiting with her grandchildren and great-children. Family was a common thread throughout her life. Her lasting legacy lives on in her two sons, Dr. Nicholas Ieronimo and his wife Jacqueline of Marlborough and John Ieronimo and his wife Carol of Old Saybrook, her grandchildren, Stephen Ieronimo, Christie Pfaff, Jonnin Sosa and Jay Ieronimo, and her great-grandchildren, Riley, Katie, Andy, Jordan and Jianna. She also leaves behind her sister, Margaret Donnelly, with whom she made her home in Middlebury over the past 5 years and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Michael, her husband of 60 years, and her parents, Sylvia will join a lifetime of family members in heaven; including her brothers, Albert, John, and Henry Benevento. Sylvia’s family would like to thank her longtime caregivers Christiana and Cynthia, for the excellent and compassionate care shown to Sylvia throughout the years. The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 9:00am at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St. Waterbury, with a service from 10:30-11:00am. Burial will follow in Mt.
