About Sylvia Haas
Allen Funeral Home Sylvia Ellen Haas, 92, of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. She was born on June 21, 1927 in Monroe County; the daughter of Donald D. and Dorothy (Phillips) Deckard. Sylvia graduated from Smithville High School. She went on to work for RCA and Westinghouse and drove a school bus for Smithville High School. Sylvia enjoyed yardwork and flowers along with doing puzzles and reading. Sylvia is survived by her children, Ted Sowder (Sharon) of Longboat Key, FL and Patricia Clark (John) Smithville, IN; stepson- Robert W. Haas, Marblehead, OH; grandchildren, Matthew Sowder, Chicago, IL, Justin Clark, Smithville, IN, and Kami Sowder, Decatur, GA; step-grandson, Christopher Haas (Stacy Hadden), Euclid, OH; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Owen, Marblehead, OH; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Sammy Deckard (Betty), Bloomington, IN, David Hawk, Montrose, IA, and Danny Hawk (Sandy), Donnellson, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Haas; and brothers, Donald Deckard and James Deckard. A funeral service will be held at 10a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. Sylvia’s family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
