About Sulo Paavola
Sulo V. Paavola, 86, formerly of Britt died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in the Itasca Nursing Home in Grand Rapids. He was born June 1, 1914, to Charles and Kaisa (Pekkola) Paavola in Angora. He grew up in Alango, where he attended the Northstar School. On Oct. 27, 1934, he married Ann Takala in Virginia. Following marriage, the couple made their home in Angora. He had worked as a logger and farmer before owning and operating Paavola's Corner. Following his retirement, he worked part time for the National Forestry Service. He had also served as a fire warden for more than 51 years. He was a member of the Evergreen Fire Department and the Loyal Order of Moose Virginia Lodge 1117. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann on July 25, 1999; a daughter, Kathleen Luecken; a granddaughter, Tracey Drexel; a brother, Bill; sisters Fannie Johnson and Jenny Henrickson; and his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Shirley (Jack) Frey; sons Rocky (Jean Yelle) Paavola and Scott (Kara) Paavola; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew. Burial will be in Alango Cemetery in Angora
