Sarah R Bess

Sarah Rodeva Troup Bess was born to the late John D. Troup and Georgia Daniels Troup in Glenwood, GA on June 12, 1929. She is preceded in death by husband, the late George Rufus Bess; Stepson, Robert Lee "Bob" Bess; and siblings Leslie, Adna, Braiford, Cotrill, Milton, Washington, Nanny Mae, Flozell, and Norman Troup. Three children—Sandra Stanley, Garrett Stanley, and Walter Wooten—also preceded her in death. Graduating with the scholarly distinction of Salutatorian, Sarah Rodeva Troup Bess commanded the same success from her children. She was extremely proud to share that each of her children earned Post-Secondary Degrees, 5 earned Masters Degrees, and 1 earned a Doctoral Degree. Sis. Bess's spiritual journey began at a very early age at Starlight Baptist Church. Upon marriage, she joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she became a devoted member of The Pentecostal Church of God where she served until her demise. She loved floral gardening, winemaking, sewing and quilting. She worked diligently with her church's Scholarship Fund and shared short stories about life on her farm, titled "Down on the Farm." She also enjoyed sharing and discussing biblical scriptures with family and friends. She was a staunch supporter of civil rights and later in life developed a friendship with Greensboro Four Survivor, Dr. Jebreel Khazan aka Ezell A. Blair, Jr. She leaves to mourn two sons—Larry Stanley (Helen) and George (GB) Bess—six daughters—Sheila Bowser (Gerald), Lynise Smith (Donald), Lydia Thomas, Millicent Frazier (Talmadge), Georgene Bess Montgomery, and Ava Roberts—one daughter in-law—Betty F. Bess—and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
