About Samuel Thompson
When Samuel Albert Thompson was born on December 9, 1874, (He was listed as 5 on the 1880 U.S. Federal Census), in Plainfield, Waushara, Wisconsin, his father, Samuel Marcus Layfayette Thompson, was 37 and his mother, Martha Ella Wing Thompson, was 15. He had one brother, Earl Milton Thompson, and three sisters, Olive Thompson Hiles. Maude Mae Thompson Parker, and Florence Mildred Thompson Gumtz. Samuel also had 5 half-siblings from his father's prior marriage to Olive Julia Ann Bowen. Their names were: Mabel Fletcher Thompson, Fred Benjamin Thompson, Herbert Powers Thompson, Edgar Marcus Thompson, and Gertrude "Jenny" Thompson. Samuel, known as Sam, suffered from cerebral palsy. Consequently, his right side was partially paralyzed. Samuel never married, and lived with his brother, Earl Thompson, or sister Florence after the death of his beloved mother, Martha Ella, in 1924. He worked as a laborer for Hiles Lumber Company in Dexterville, Wood County, WI and later on for a box factory in Shawano, Wisconsin. Sam spent the final twenty years of his life in a rest home in Gresham. He died on May 16, 1966, living to 91 years of age. He outlived all of his siblings.
