About Russell Babbs
Truck mishap kills area man, Russell E. Babbs Russell E. Babbs, 29, of rural Fairbury, a truck driver for Agriculture Transportation Association, Forrest, died April 22 in a one-truck accident near Grant, New Mexico. Authorities said Babbs' truck struck a median, rolled over and exploded at approximately 11:45 p.m. Babbs had worked for ATA for the past six years. Funeral services were held Monday at the Stiver Home for Funerals with Rev. Charles Karl officiating. Burial was in Avoca Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jerry Vaughan and Rick Rothenberger of Fairbury, James, Mick and Richard Vaughan, and Gay Young, all of Forrest. He was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Bloomington, a son of Leslie and Ada (Hartman) Babbs. He attended Forrest schools and married Betty Jan Bellott in Fairbury on June 19, 1965. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Thomas and Timothy, a daughter, Peggy Sue, all at home; his father, Pontiac; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wenger, Fairbury; one brother, Gary, Forrest; four sisters, Gloria, Chicago, Mrs. Linda Angus, Morris, Mrs. Donna Stehle, Forrest and Mrs. Kathy Rhoades, Fairbury; and hai grandmother, Mrs. Emma Babbs, Pekin. He was preceded in death by one daughter. Mr. Babbs was a member of the Pontiac Moose Lodge.
