About Ronald Gabel
Passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013. Age 79. Ronald was born in Kalamazoo on May 16, 1934, the son of the late Charles and Doris (Furney) Gabel. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Eddies Exposition Shows in Butler, PA and City Star Disposal Company. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling and fishing. He is survived by his brother and two sisters. Cremation has taken place and private family graveside service will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Reverence Hospice. Ron was somewhat of an accidental Army enlistment. He went into the service after truthfully telling them that he only had one usable eye. He had lost vision in one of his eyes when he ran into a barbed wire fence when he was around 4 years old. The military thought he was lying, but after a few months realized he was telling the truth and released him. He served at Fort Custer for only a few months. Updates. Aug 2023 - changed age when lost vision from 8 to 4, per his sister recalling her mother said she had just been born and laid her in the grass to run to him.
