About Rodney Kennedy-Minott
Diplomat, Author. A native of Oregon, Kennedy-Minott joined the US Army at the end of World War Two and served in Japan and during the Korean War. After his discharge, he attended Stanford University where he received his Ph.D in history in 1960. He soon returned to teach at Stanford and served as director of the summer session program from 1960 until 1965. He later also taught and served as head of the Humanities Division at California State University Hayward. In 1976 he was appointed campaign chairman for Northern California for the presidential campaign of his friend, Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter. Following Carter's election as President, he was appointed United States Ambassador to Sweden, serving with distinction from 1977 until 1980. In 1993 he was appointed an instructor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. In addition, he was the author of several books including "Peerless Patriot: The Organized Veterans and the Spirit of Americanism" (1962), "The Fortress that Never Was: The Myth of Hitler's Bavarian Stronghold" (1964), "The Sinking of the Lollipop: Shirley Temple vs. Pete McCloskey" (1968), and "Tension in the North: Sweden and Nordic Security" (1989).
