About Robert Barnett

WINSTON-SALEM - Alzheimer's took the life of Mr. Robert A. Barnett "Bob", on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Lutheran Home on Old Walkertown Road. A Memorial Service will be held at Francisco Presbyterian Church in Francisco, NC of Stokes County at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2010. He will be laid to rest at Big Creek Church on Horseshoe Road in Francisco, NC, following the Memorial Service. Mr Barnett was born in Jefferson County, Tarrant Alabama, to the late Arthur and Myrtle Barnett. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and a member of the Shepherd Sunday School Class. He graduated from Jacksonville State College in Jacksonville, AL. He served in the U.S Army as First Lieutenant. Mr. Barnett worked on the Guidance and Flight Control System for the Minute Man Missile in Cape Canaveral, FL, where he felt privileged to meet the original astronauts. He then moved to Winston-Salem where he was employed with AT&T for 14 years, as a Senior Technical Documentation Specialist. He was a member of Toastmaster International and served as Area Governor and Division Lieutenant Governor. Bob is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dorlee S Barnett; a step-daughter, Susan C. Boyles and husband, Bob; and grandsons, Rob and James Boyles, that Bob called his own, who live in Coppell, TX; a step-son, Steve A. Canter and wife, Tracy and step-daughters, Rhegan and Averi. Surviving also are his beloved dogs, "Pepper" and "Sugar". He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Louise Eades and husband, Basil. He is also survived by his niece, Janice Eades of Anniston, AL; a nephew, Johnny Eades; two special cousins, Martha Thompson of Sorrento, FL and Jean Williamson and husband, Art, of Birmingham, AL. The family would like thank the Lutheran Home for taking care of Bob. Memorials may be made to the Tab Williams Adult Day Care Center and to the Samaritan Ministries.
