Robbie Etoyle Mullins Graveside Service Thursday, Sep 7, 2023 10:00 AM Robbie Etoyle Mullins July 10, 1927 - September 5, 2023 Robbie Etoyle Davis Mullins July 10, 1927 - September 5, 2023, My grandmother left this, her earthly home, for her eternal home with Jesus and the Father on Tuesday, September 5th. We were blessed to have her on this earth for 96 years where she lived a life filled with experiences, elation, and at times, sweet sorrow. I know that she was greeted at the edge of Heaven by those loved ones who had entered the Kingdom before her. Her parents Mardie Jason Davis and Elva Joyce Gordon Davis. Her siblings Mary Frances Davis Miller and James Mardie Davis along with so many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that she loved and missed dearly. She has shared stories with me of the times she lived in Memphis and Chicago as well as the years coming of age in Skuna bottom in the Pleasant Grove community with hardworking parents who instilled the love of Jesus Christ and God in her and her brother and sister. I know what she told me about a young girl from the country who moved to the city and met her husband while working at a candy factory. In Memphis, her three children; Barbara Ann, Alton Davis, and Samuel Mardie were born. In Chicago, she worked as a secretary at Univac and her photo was featured in the Chicago Tribune. She returned to Mississippi when her children were older and lived there until Tuesday. She cleaned the homes of some of those she loved and thought of as family. In her later life she became grandmother to me, my brothers Jason, Greg, and Eddie, and my cousins Sarah, Shawn, Lyndsay, and Jacob. We made her a great-grandmother as well as a great-great-grandmother. She was present at the birth of both of my children and had a hand in their upbringing as much as I did. Most of the days of my life were spent with her, my Rob. Until recently very few days went by that I did not speak with her. She taught me to cook cornbread, to drive, to ride a bicycle, to pick peas, to fix anything, and to love God. She took me to church at Pleasant Grove the same as her parents had taken her. Because of her, I will never wear white after Labor Day and I put on lipstick before I leave my house always. We went fishing countless times. We attended countless country music concerts along with my mother and friends. There wasn't anything she and I couldn't do together and we tackled everything that came along no matter how impossible it seemed. Everyone she ever met became a friend and in the last few years, she gained new ones and reconnected with friends of the past. A conventional grandmother she wasn't but she was exactly the grandmother I needed all of my life. I'm sure if you are reading this she was the friend you needed as well. She requested many times that there be no funeral for her. She wanted us all to honor those we love while they are still here with us and only take time to remember her with joy and love at this time. I will honor her wishes and only hold a small graveside service at Bruce Cemetery where she will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 7th at 10 a.m. with Bro. Robert Earl Alexander officiating In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or the Calhoun County Baptist Association. Thank you to everyone who touched her life in a positive light. She loved you all.
