Richard William Zahringer

Richard William Zahringer, age 80, of Harrison, died on May 25, 2020, at his residence surrounded by by the love of family He fought a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 27, 1940, in Stockbridge, son of the late Hugo and Cresence (Thill) Zahringer. On October 15, 1966, he married Esther Braun at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood, and together they had four children. They were married for 53 years. Richard served his country in the United States Navy before becoming a paper mill worker at several companies in the Fox Valley. He spent a lot of free time in clubs encouraging his hobbies; he was a founding member of the Calumet County Flyers, a member of The Milwaukee Road and Soo Line Historical Societies, an EAA member, and a member of the American Legion 40 & 8. He was an airplane and railroad enthusiast who chased trains and planes. He loved taking pictures and had a passion for food and WWII history. He was always willing to help anybody who had any problems. Above all else he was a man with a good heart, a true friend, and a great husband, father, and grandfather. Richard is survived by his wife, Esther; his children: Tammy (Lyle) Weyenberg, Timothy (Mindi) Zahringer, Steven (Denise) Zahringer, and Stuart Zahringer; seven grandchildren whom he loved dearly : Kaylyn, Devin, Mitchell, Christa, Anne, Alexis, and Gilbert; sisters: Mary (Russ) Rautmann, June (Rick) Mueller, and Sister Carolyn Zahringer; a brother: Jim Zahringer; a sister-in-law: Darlene Zahringer; and a brother-in-law: Jim Guelig. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Cresence; a grandchild: Spencer; Esther's parents: Peter and Carrie Braun; a sister: Arlene Guelig; a brother: Harvey Zahringer; and brothers-in-law: Roger Braun and Robert Braun. A funeral service will be held at 5:00pm on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 2:00pm until 4:45pm at the funeral home on the day of the service. Burial will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Sherwood.
