About R. Wood
CENTRAL CITY — R. Dean Wood, 81, of Central City passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Gathering of friends and family will begin at 9. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow in Cedarview Cemetery at Doniphan. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Dean was born on Dec. 12, 1936, at the family home in Central City, son of Walter and Argylle (Schulz) Wood. Dean grew up to appreciate the value of hard work and caring for the land as a farmer. He graduated from Alda in 1955. Following high school, he began working for local farmers. On Feb. 14, 1959, Dean married his lifelong sweetheart, Gertrude. They were soon able to realize Dean’s lifelong dream of owning their own farm. Dean was a true caretaker of the land. He loved the peace that was brought by his hours on his Oliver tractors. He loved time spent with his family, telling stories and playing cards. Weekends were best spent dancing to every song with Gertrude. His legacy is cherished by his wife, Gertrude of Central City; children, Lisa Jensen of Cairo, Lori (Mike) Slater of Berthoud, Colo., Jim (Marcia) Wood of Clearwater, John (Beth) Wood of Coleridge, Jerry (Shae) Wood of Wood River and Lynn Wood (Jeff Gannon) of Shelton; 25 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters; special dog, Kelly; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Dale and Tom; and grandson, Jeremy Jensen.
