Columbus Republic 11 Nov 2005 R. Bernice Ketchum Franklin Street Ruby Bernice Ketchum, 77, of Franklin Street, the 2005 recipient of The Republic's Woman of the Year Award, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at her home. A homemaker, Mrs. Ketchum formerly worked at Dell Brothers, JCPenney, Cosco, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. and Ketchum's Kornucopia Family Restaurant. She was a lifelong member of Garden City Church of Christ, a member of Christian Women's Association and a former Sunday school teacher and chaplain's aide at Columbus Regional Hospital. She also had been a member of Columbus Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Flower Lane Garden Club, Exchangette Club and Modern Matrons Home Ec Club. She was a volunteer with Hospice of South Central Indiana, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association and also delivered Meals on Wheels. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Garden City Church of Christ with the Revs. Ron Voss and Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. She married Earl W. Ketchum Jr. Sept. 26, 1947. Survivors include her husband; sons, David (Sue) Ketchum of Columbus, Gregory Ketchum of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mark (Susan) Ketchum of Columbus; brothers, Dale (Barbara) Strahl, Doyle (Marilyn) Strahl and Ransom (Joan) Strahl, all of Columbus, Dennis (Glenda) Strahl of Oregon, Ohio, and James Strahl of Lake Wales, Fla.; sisters, Louise (Charles) Gearhardt of Greenwood and Dorothy (Bruce) Hatcher of Maryville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Amanda (Sam) Green, Alissa (Jon) Karr, Sarah Ketchum, John (Ellen) Ketchum, Katherine Ketchum and Andrew Ketchum. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Irene Bearry and Virginia Glasgow.
