Quillian P Skinner

Mr. Quillian P. "Q.P." Skinner, age 86, of Oak Grove Church Road, Carrollton, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007. Mr. Skinner was born in Carroll County on Feb. 21, 1921, the son of the late Charles V. Skinner and Ollie Adams Skinner. Mr. Skinner was a business leader of Carrollton for many years, where he started a taxi business in 1939, a grocery store in 1945, and Skinner's Poultry, which he sold to Gold Kist in 1963. He was involved in real estate and opened the Bargain Barnes Stores and Carrollton's first exercise center, the Fountain of Youth Health Spa. Mr. Skinner was recognized for his community service in the Georgia Heart Association, Army Recruiting Service, Carrollton Jaycees and Empty Stocking Fund, Kiwanis Club, Optimist Club, Georgia Poultry Association, and Carrollton Booster Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 82nd Chemical Mortar Battalion, Company C, in the Philippines and Tokyo where he received decorations for Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two battle stars and four unit citations. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Judy Skinner, Mack and Phyllis Skinner, all of Carrollton; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Alan Wood of Newnan; grandchildren and their spouses, Ken and Kelley Skinner, Carrollton, Kristi and Mike Brooks, Houston, TX, Kevin Skinner, Carrollton, Lori and Kevin Higgs, Carrollton, Jeff and Shelley Skinner, LaGrange, Angie and Chad Murray, Carrollton, Shelley and John Clifford, Newnan, and Ansley Wood of Atlanta; and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Leathers Skinner; sister, Eartis S. Norwood; infant sister and infant brother. Funeral was 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at Almon Funeral Home, Carrollton. Dr. Jimmy Gentry and Mr. Alan Wood officiating. Interment Carrollton City Cemetery.
