About Queen Brockington

Queen E. Brockington, also affectionately known as Sister Queenie, departed her earthly home July 3, 2012, and began her journey into eternal rest. Born June 6, 1920, in Lane, S.C., to the late Ralston and Louise (Major) Wilson, she was also educated in Lane, S.C. She married her husband Leland C. Brockington, Dec. 25, 1938. They were married for 51 years until his death in 1990. To this union three children were born, Leland Brockington, Jerry Brockington (who preceded her in death as an infant), and Jeanette (Brockington) Singleton. They moved to Brockton in 1943. Her interests included knitting, shopping - especially for hats, and was lovingly referred to as one of the hat sisters. She also enjoyed cooking, watching Wheel of Fortune on TV, and gardening. She was known throughout the city for her delicious cornbread, and chocolate chip cookies, often bringing them to the doctors offices and stores where she shopped to give to the clerks. The would call her to let her know they set aside a hat for her to look at before putting it on display and sometimes even gave her discounts because of the treats she brought them. Above all, she placed God first and was a faithful churchgoer until her declining health prevented her from attending. She was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle Church for nearly 46 years. She gave her heart to the Lord, and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served as vice-president of the Pastors Aide Committee. In addition, she was a former member of the Eastern Star. Queen was a compassionate friend to many and would go out of her way to help others. Two of her favorite sentiments were, Its nice to be nice or Love is an act. To cherish her loving memories, she leaves her adoring children and their loving spouses, Leland (Stella) Brockington and Jeanette (Jessie) Singleton of Brockton; a devoted stepdaughter, Mamie (J.D.) Miller of New York; her adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her brothers, Leroy and Willie Wilson Sr., and her sisters, Florence (Wilson) Darby and Ruth (Wilson) Gibbs. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, 452 Main St., Brockton. There will be a calling hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church Tuesday. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours will be held Monday, July 9, from 4-7 p.m. at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton. For additional information, please visit www.d-mfh.com.
