Phillip E. Stegenga

Philip E. Stegenga, 68, of West Olive, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at his home. Phil was born December 9, 1953, in Zeeland, Michigan, to Dorris and Henrietta Stegenga. He graduated from Crisp School, West Ottawa High School, attended Grand Rapids Community College, and started his career in heating and cooling. Phil married Linda Walters on June 29, 1973. Phil and Linda are members of Calvary Christian Reformed Church. He was preceded in death by his brother Bryan Stegenga, brothers-in-law Roy Velderman and Ron Walters. Phil launched his own company West Michigan Heating and Air Conditioning in 1986. Phil and his sons and daughter-in-law still all work together in the family business. Phil served in the past as an Ottawa County Sheriff Deputy Reserve Officer. He was an avid hunter and longtime member of the Safari Club. Phil taught hunter safety courses for many years and enjoyed teaching his sons how to shoot and hunt safely and successfully. Phil was a baseball fan and coach for several years for recreation and adult baseball leagues. He was also a very dedicated University of Michigan football fan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda, their children: Steve Stegenga, Scott and Samantha Stegenga; three grandchildren: Micah, Broden, Sawyer; his siblings: Mary Velderman, Elaine and Mark Hansen, Carol and Mark Stoel; his father-in-law Harold Walters, in-laws: Sharon Walters, Dick Walters, Bob and Jackie Walters, Tom Walters, Doug and Lisa Walters, Steve and Amy Walters, Garry and Mary Walters, Mike and Jenny Walters; and many extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Calvary CRC, 400 Beeline Rd., Holland MI 49424. Visiting hours will be 4:30-6:30 pm, Friday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464, and also 10:00-10:45am prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer and Hematology Centers of West Michigan.
