Peggy Sue Shelton

Peggy Sue (Mullins) Shelton, 75, of Mooresville gained her angel wings on Monday, August 21, 2023 while in the comfort of her home. She was born in Whitesburg, KY on December 16, 1947, to the late Charlie F. "Banks" and Verna (Hall) Mullins. One of eight children, Peggy, was raised in a tight knit family. Moving around as a child, the family eventually settled in Indiana where her father was able to secure work enabling them to be closer to their family. She attended Cascade High School and later met a boy named Gary who was destined to be her future husband and soulmate for the rest of their lives. United in holy matrimony on March 13, 1965, Gary enlisted in the United States Airforce to proudly serve his country in the Vietnam War, while Peggy stayed behind waiting for her airman to return home. A true and loving matriarch at heart, Peggy worked for the Indiana Glass Company for a brief period, but her true passion was taking the best care of her family she possibly could. Continuously putting her family's needs above her own, she ensured they were provided for, going as far as scraping pennies when needed. A master in the kitchen, Peggy was a talented cook who refused to let those she loved go hungry. Known for regularly inviting her children and grandchildren over for a hot, delicious meal, you could rest assured she would also send you home with a plate of leftovers. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were her specialty, and she served her mouthwatering turkey dressing yearly. Selfless and giving, Peggy was not one to complain and forever saw the good in people. With a high tolerance for the mean side of people, she refused to allow arguments to be held in her presence. She had a heart of gold along with a pure mind and didn't have it in her to speak ill of anyone. With her silly demeanor, she was able to bring out a smile on people's faces, even on their worst days. Artistic with a needle, she was a gifted seamstress. She loved her family, God, reading her Bible, as well as collecting angels, doves, porcelain dolls, and chihuahua figurines, which she was happy to share with all she knew. Truly a tough woman on the inside, Peggy kept her chin up no matter what life threw at her, all the way to the end. A genuinely loving and caring soul, she made the world a better place and will be deeply missed. Along with her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her siblings, Morgan Mullins, Lavonne Key, Gene Mullins, Sylvia Wright, and Reverend Reginald "Buddy" Mullins, and furbaby Roxy. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Gary W. Shelton of Mooresville; children, Christine Mitchell (Jay) of Monrovia, Gary Shelton, Jr. of Mooresville, and Steve Shelton (Barbara) of Indianapolis; siblings, Douglas Mullins of Plainfield, and Vickie Shoulders (Ray) of Danville; grandchildren, Brittany Sibbing (Nick) of Coatesville, Kristie Sue Shelton of Martinsville, and Steve "Bub" Ferguson (Brandy) of Monrovia; along with 6 great grandchildren and her treasured furbabies, Charlie Bear and Taz. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Monday, August 28, 2023 with a Celebration of Life Service beginning promptly at 1:00pm. Pastor Keenan Steinway will officiate, and burial will follow in West Union Friends Cemetery, Monrovia.
