About Pedro Cantu

BEEVILLE - Pedro G. "Pete" Cantu, 73, passed away on Sept. 1, 2011. He was born to Wenceslado and Mary Guajardo Cantu on April 3, 1938 in San Antonio. He married Lonnie Garcia on October 30, 1998 in Beeville, Texas. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and worked for Bee Community Action Agency. He enjoyed bowling, reading and sports and was a Dallas Cowboys fan. Pete played the guitar and base and was a member of Red Rockers and Crystals bands in the 60s and Trio in the 90s, and he was also in the Community Choir. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles W. Cantu; two brothers, Sisto Cantu and Danny Cantu; and two sisters, Lupita Patterson and Olga Gutierrez. He is survived by his wife, Lonnie Cantu of Beeville; son, Christopher, L. (Hazel) Cantu of Houston; daughter, Cindy A. Cantu of Houston; two step-sons, Ernest (Pinky) Garza of Beeville, and Edward Lee Sr. (Anna) Garza of Beeville; two brothers, Terry (Lupita) Lopez of Corpus Christi, and David (Betty) Cantu of Beeville; two sisters, Mary Ann Rollings of Bolton, Mass. and Gloria (Matthew) Alvarez of Victoria; eight grandchildren, Gabriel Cantu, Anthony Cantu, Olivia Garza, Malarie Melchor, Edward Lee Garza Jr., Megan Garza, Brooke Garza and Victoria Gonzales; five great-grandchildren, Emalee Garza, Audree Garza, Adrian Gonzales, Andrew Gonzales and Erin Gonzales; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011 at Angelus Funeral Home with a rosary recited that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers: Matthew Alvarez III, John Michael Cantu, Bobby Jones, J.R. Lal, Pete A. Cantu and Luis Melchor. Honorary pallbearers: Edward Lee Garza Jr., Edward Lee Garza Sr. and Christopher Cantu
