About Pamela Bahr

A Celebration of Life for Pamela Kay Bahr, 62, of Groton will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 6th at the United Methodist Church, Groton. The Rev. Matt Richards will officiate. Burial will follow in the Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Visitation will be held at the church from 4-8 pm on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Pam passed away June 3, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Pamela Kay Rix was born on January 21, 1950 in Aberdeen to Robert Blair "Bob" and Hazel (Holland) Rix. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Groton on May 8, 1955. She was confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Groton on March 7, 1965. Pam attended school in Groton and graduated from Groton High School in 1969. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Douglas Barry Bahr on June 14, 1969. To this union, four boys were born. Together they made their home on the family farm for several years, before moving into town in 1975. Pam worked for WheetCo. and later for Golden Living Center, both in Groton. During this time she was also employed part-time at Ken's Fairway in Groton. In 2003, she began working for Avera St. Lukes Hospital on the pediatric floor. She had a great passion for caring for children and developed very special friendships with many co-workers and families of those she cared for. Pam's greatest love in life was her family. Many years were spent camping and teaching her children the value of nature and the outdoors. In earlier years, Pam and Doug enjoyed traveling with their sons to their multiple sporting events. Pam had such pride in all of her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. She had no doubt they would all grow up to be incredible people. Doug has always had a beautiful garden and Pam enjoyed harvesting the crop with him and canning. She made some fabulous tomato soup and pickles that were enjoyed by many. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing and gave so many of her creations to friends and family. As her children grew and had families of their own, Pam treasured becoming a grandma of 7 beautiful grandchildren. She loved every moment spent with them. Before her passing, she created story books for all the grandchildren that they will cherish for all their lives. She was an energetic grandma so full of life and never passed up a hug or kiss from her grandchildren. Celebrating her life is her husband of nearly 43 years, her children, Troy (Jennifer) Bahr of Parker, Colorado; Brian (Andrea) Bahr of Groton; Damian (Erin) Bahr of Groton; Dion (Samantha) Bahr of Groton and her 7 grandchildren: Hunter, Ashtyn, Jackson, Alexandra "Lexi", Madilyn "Madi", London and Nolan. Pam is also survived by her mother, Hazel McKittrick of Groton; her sister, Diane (David) Feller of Sioux Falls; three sister-in-laws; three brother-in-laws and their families. Honorary Casketbearers will be all of her grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Troy Bahr, Brian Bahr, Damian Bahr, Dion Bahr, Chad Nierman and Matt Leidholdt. Casual dress is requested for both services. - Paetz-Garness Funeral Chapel
