August 3, 1976. Otto Iburg Dies Of Cancer Retired Farmer. Funeral services were held Thurday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church, rural Williamsburg, for Otto G. Iburg, 79. He had been ill with cancer for six months and died at his home, Aug. 3, 1976, after being bedfast for five weeks. The Rev. W. A. Renning officiated at the service. Organist was Mrs. Alvin Lutringer accompaning the congregation as they sang, "My Course Has Been Run" and "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me." Mrs. Orville Von Ahsen and Mrs. Ernest Rowe cared for the flowers. Burial was in the church cemetery and casket bearers were: John Iberg, Alvin Teggatz, Orville Schwarting, Rudolph Doehrmann, Martin Witte, Orville Von Ahsen. Otto George Iburg was born Oct. 12, 1896 in Troy township the son of Henry and Sophie Uhlewvinkel Iburg. He received his education in the Lutheran school, was a lifetime member of Immanuel and was a World War I veteran serving from Sept. 1918 until Jan. 1919. He was married to Elsie E. Newkirk and the couple farmed for a number of years before retiring and moving to Williamsburg. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Delmar, Homestead, Robert, Williamsburg and Kenneth, Oskaloosa. Also 12 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandchildren, and a brother, Adolph Iberg, Marengo (Source: Journal=Tribune, March 12, 1976.) Iburg Served On Church, School Building Groups. The funeral services for Otto G. Iburg, 79 who died Aug. 3 after a six month illness, were held at the church where he had served on the building committee in 1959. Iburg, who had been bedfast the last five weeks, was on the building committees for both Immanuel Lutheran church, where services were held Aug. 5, and the Lutheran Interparish school in Williamsburg in 1968. He had been baptized Nov. 15, 1896 at St. John's Lutheran, Homestead, and confirmed at Immanuel in York township Apr. 9, 1911 and had remained a lifetime Lutheran. He married Elsie E. Newkirk Nov. 27, 1923 in the Immanuel church. They had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1973 and had been residents of Williamsburg since 1955 when he retired from farming. His service in the army during World War I had been at Camp Dodge from September 1918 until January 1919. Survivors in addition to his wife included sons Delmar, Homestead; Robert, Williamburg; Kenneth, Oskaloosa; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother Adolph Iberg, Marengo. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were seven brothers, Fred, Herman, Louis, Henry, William, Theodore and John, also two sisters, Mary and Anna. (Source: March 26, 1976.)
