About Olga Maack

Private family service for Olga I. Maack, 87, of Watertown and formerly of Aberdeen will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at Aberdeen. The Rev. Dianne Rood-Kiesz will officiate. Olga died Monday, April 18, 2016 at her residence. Olga and her twin brother were born January 23, 1929 to Joseph and Sophia (Dobias) Zambo at Selby, SD. They were the youngest of nine children. Their mother died when they were 18 months old and their father then raised the children on the homestead near Selby. Olga attended country school and started working at a very early age. She married Edward C. Maack on October 17, 1948 and they made their home in Aberdeen. To that union five children were born. Edward died April 26, 1988 and Olga continued to live in Aberdeen until moving to Watertown where for the past nine years she lived with her daughter and family. Olga was a hard working person. She never complained, always did her best and always said “Thank You”. She worked as a waitress for many years and at the age of 40 she changed careers and worked at 3M in Aberdeen for 19 years, retiring in 1988. Family was very important to Olga. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Olga loved to go to rummage sales and always arriving there early to get the “best bargains”. She loved weeding and working in her huge garden even on the hottest of days. She loved lotto scratch tickets and eating fried chicken twice a day. She was always asked to bake her delicious banana bread and caramel rolls. She made them lovingly for everyone. Grateful for having shared Olga’s life are her children, Carl (Mary) Maack, Judy (Wallace) Dahl, Chester Maack and Kelly Maack and Tammy Maack; twin brother, Densley Zambo; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and the love of her life, her dog, Tad. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, three brothers and four sisters. Adapted from Carlsen Funeral Home & Crematory obituary
