About Odessa Beckley
This was recorded in the Carroll Journal, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, March 9, 1944. Mrs. Odessa Beckley has sold her South High Street home to Dr. C. A. Locke and will move to Canton where she and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Elliott have purchased property. Mrs. Beckley has been an employee of the J. C. Penney Company store for nine years. Mr. Elliott is an employee of the Timken Company. They plan to move April 1. Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, December 1981. Mrs. Odessa Beckley, 90, of Atwood Lake, Dellroy, died December 24, in her home following a long illness. Born April 1, 1891 in Carroll county, a daughter of the late Robert and Melissa (Scott) Marshall, she was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church at Canton and the Carrollton Order of Eastern Star. A former teacher in Carroll County, she retired from J. C. Penny Co. with which she was employed in Carrollton and Canton. Her husband, Samuel Beckley, died in 1932. Survivors included two sons and a daughter, Homer of Dellroy, Robert of Orlando, Florida, and Mrs. Arthur (Freda) Elliot of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Toot of Carrollton and Mrs. Katherine Elder of California; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, four brothers and two sisters are deceased. Services were held Sunday in the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home at Carrollton with Rev. Douglas Patton officiating. Burial was held in Grandview Cemetery.
