About Obediah Neal
O.C. Neal, Jr. married first to Ruth Decker on 10/14/1942. ------------ Funeral services for O.C. Neal Jr., 89, of Temple, a native of Hopkins County, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel, 2805 South Jefferson St. in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Todd Vincent officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs with Jeff Hall, Scott Hall, Joseph Trevino, Rick Smoot, Troy Driggers and R.T. Driggers serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the funeral home. Mr. Neal passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his residence. He was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Hopkins County, the son of O.C. "Lum" Neal Sr. and Darcy Holbert Neal. They preceded him in death. Mr. Neal was a veteran of the U.S. Army, earning a Purple Heart while serving in the 1st Cavalry during World War II. He was a member of Canyon Creek Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Masons. Other survivors include his wife, Ruth Decker of Temple; four daughters, Nancy Smoot of Springfield, Tenn., Diane Neal and husband, Jerry Trevino, of Atlanta, Ga., Judy Thompson and husband, Lonnie, of Sugarhill, and Carol Aguirrie and husband, Johnny, of Austin; two sons, R.T. Driggers and wife, Jodi, of Fredericksburg and Troy Driggers of Austin; one sister, Irene Daughtry of Mount Pleasant; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Margie Neal and Ruth VanZandt Neal; five brothers; and four sisters.
