About O. Carter

Rev. O. Douglas Carter, 63, of Bloomington passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born on October 29, 1953 in St Louis, MO, to Oliver Cromwell “O.C.” and Lula Marie (Johnson) Carter. Doug was a 1971 Graduate of Breckenridge County High School in Hardinsburg, KY and attended Moorehead State University. He married Tanya Renee Huechteman on June 24, 1978 in Lakeland, FL. Doug served as a minister of the gospel for almost 40 years and was ordained by the General Council of the Assemblies of God in 1985. His ministry began in 1976 while attending Lakeland Assembly of God Church where he led over 100 men to Christ in the Bartow County, FL jail. Doug also served as youth pastor for Eastland Assembly of God Church in Tulsa, OK for two years, lead pastor for Pittsfield Assembly of God Church in Pittsfield, IL for seventeen years, an evangelist for the next eight years, and lead pastor of Ellettsville Assembly of God Church in Ellettsville, IN for seven years before retiring in 2015 due to his illness. Doug loved being a pastor, reading the bible, and praying. He was known especially for his sermons on prayer and will undoubtedly be remembered by all his parishioners and family as a prayer warrior. He enjoyed bike riding, fishing, and swimming, even serving as a lifeguard during high school. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, especially when eating out at Red Lobster and Abuelos. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Doug is survived by his wife, Tanya Renee Carter; daughters, Mica (David) Bush, Holly (Anthony) Barnes all of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Rheanna, Russell, Calista, and Logan Barnes, Macy, Sydney, and Levi Bush; one sister, Frieda (Bob) White of Cleveland, TX; one brother, Dr. Steven (Sharon) Carter of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Aaron Carter, and sister Linda Logsdon.
