Norbert Fisher

Norbert Adam Fisher, Sr., 84, Bismarck, formerly of Solen, ND, passed away September 1, 2022. A Catholic Mass Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, September 12, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2362 County Road 136, St. Anthony, ND, with Rev. Keith Streifel officiating. Norbert was born March 26, 1938, in Flasher, North Dakota, to Robert and Regina (Berger) Fisher. He was raised and educated in Fallon, ND. Many winter nights were spent at the Catholic boarding school in Fallon. On Sept 8, 1956, Norbert married Arlene (Fode) Fisher; together they raised three children, Norbert Jr., Tanya, & Trina. During the early years of marriage Norbert & Arlene worked road construction in Grass Range Montana, then moved onto the construction site at the Garrison dam. This is when they decided to return to the family farm to start farming and ranching. They milked cows and farmed with horses, all while living in a rock house with no electricity or running water. They lived in "God's Country", as Norbert called it. Eventually they sold the dairy cattle for beef cattle, which they continued to raise along with farming wheat, barley, oats, and corn. They farmed over 55 years together before Arlene's passing in 2011. Norbert loved farming so much, that in summer of 2020, the doctors had to tell him it was time to retire at the young age of 82. Norbert enjoyed many dances at the Junction Inn, hunting his deep coulees on his land for deer in the fall, a good game of cards, or shaking dice for a "Coke". He always said his favorite spot was in the tractor, whether it be feeding cows or farming his land. He and Arlene made many trips to Selfridge to enjoy supper at The Branding Iron Bar, he loved to visit with Steve Gerhardt and the whole crew. It was here that he got "people's choice award" for the best homemade sausage. He loved making and sharing sausage with everyone. He also had a knack for making the best headcheese and liver sausage. He enjoyed going to the casinos with Cousins Val and Doris Fleck. He loved going to Ohms, where he and the others would solve all the world problems of the day. He looked forward to Mondays for the "Golden Oldies" supper at the Eagles Club. He took many short trips around MT, SD, & ND, but his favorite trip was to Las Vegas to see his oldest grandson Scott get married. His family was so important to him, especially when he became a "GREAT" Grandpa. He was full of love and joy for those two "pretty little ladies" as he called them. Then along came a great grandson to complete his family. He always had some kind of candy in his shirt pocket for all the grandkids (or any kids), no matter what age they were. Norbert was such a gentle man with a big heart; he would always include all the kids around him. Norbert had a kind way of talking to complete strangers and making them feel like family. Norbert passed away from congestive heart failure. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. In his final days, he was surrounded by his family who adored him. Norbert will be greatly missed by his two daughters; Trina (Ben) Gress and Tanya (Chris) Dietz, both of Mandan; and one son, Norbert, Jr. (Cally) Fisher of Solen. His eight grandchildren; Scott (Shelby) Fisher, Travis Fisher, Lisa (Brent) Beckler, Brandi Schmidt (Joe), Ethan, Adam, Owen, and Anton Gress. His three GREAT grandchildren; Ava Fisher, Libby Fisher, and Lane Beckler. Sisters; Gloria Schmidt, and Regina (Duane) Schlichenmayer. Sister-in-laws; Ilene (Gene) Roth, Claudia Fode, Bonnie (Lonnie) Fisher-Lundstrom. Norbert is preceded in death by his wife Arlene; parents Robert, Sr. and Regina Fisher; siblings, Robert Jr., Alice, and Gale; in-laws, Ted, Sr. and Martha Fode; brother and sisters-in-law, Ted, Jr. and Beverly Fode, Roger Fode, Tom Schmidt; and grandson, Samuel Gress.
