About Nicholas Mumley
Professional Football Player. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 5th round of the 1959 NFL Draft out of Purdue as a tackle. Instead of playing for the Eagles he chose to go with the New York Titans, of the new American Football League (AFL). He played his entire professional career (1960-1962 with the Titans where he played in 42 games, 36 of which he started, as a defensive end. Prior to his professional career he attended Wheeling High School where he took lettered in football, basketball and track. He was named West Virginia's Mr. Basketball in addition to later being inducted into the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference's Hall of Fame. After high school he attended Purdue University where he played on the Boilermakers football team in 1956, 1957 and 1959. While there the International News Service selected him as a second-team player on its 1957 College Football All-America Team. He passed away at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was cremated and his ashes were inurned at Garland Brook Cemetery.
