Nanna Aase

Funeral services for Nanna Aase, 93, Detroit Lakes, were held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lakes. Vicki Marthaler, Lay Chaplain, officiated. Mrs. Aase died on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Nanna Selfors, daughter of Nels and Bergetta (Johanson) Selfors, was born on August 30, 1908 in Minot. She grew up and attended school in Minot, graduating from Minot High School. She then attended Minot State University and later received her B.S. Degree from Valley City State University. On September 3, 1927, she married Hjalmar J. Thoreson in Coulee, N.D. She taught school for 28 years in North Dakota and Oregon. Following her husband, Hjalmar’s death in 1963, she continued to teach in Oregon until her retirement in 1970. In 1970, she married Elmer R. Hilde and they lived in San Diego, Calif., until his death in 1977. She then moved to Bellingham, Wash. In 1980, she married George Aase in Bellingham. After his death in 1986, she moved to Minnesota. She lived in Minnetonka, Minn., and Pelican Rapids. She has been a resident at Emmanuel Nursing Home since 1994. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids. She is survived by two sons, Hubert (Maureen) Thoreson and Laverne (Beverly) Thoreson, all of Pelican Rapids; one grandson; one sister, Alice Smith, Chiliwach, B.C., Canada; one sister-in-law, Doris Thoreson, Fargo; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hjalmar Thoreson on May 28, 1962; her second husband, Elmer R. Hilde in 1977; her third husband, George L. Aase on November 26, 1986; her parents, Nels and Bergetta Selfors; two brothers, Nels, Jr. Selfors and William Selfors.; five sisters, Mary Selfors, Pauline Hanson, Sena Aasen; Marie Selfors and Oline Von Berge. Music was provided by pianist Vicki Marthaler and soloist Kim Schnitzer. Interment at Pelican Valley Cemetery, Pelican Rapids. West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.
