About Mozelle Self Sewell

Mozelle Sewell, 87, of Abilene passed away Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 at Hendrick Medical Center South. Graveside service will be held Tuesday January 11, 2022 at 2pm at the Abilene City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-7pm at the North's Funeral Home Chapel. Mozelle Watkins (Self) Sewell was born in Glen Rose Texas to Joe Sheridan Watkins, and Zillah Corrine (Rogers) Watkins on August 16, 1934. Mozelle, one of 10 children, moved to Abilene when she was very young, where she started and finished school in Abilene when she graduated from Abilene High in 1953. She was working at Timex when she married David C. Self in 1954. He was working installing Microwave Radio Towers and later had a Custom Combine Business, they traveled and lived all over the United States. Mozelle had seen most all the states and Canada before she was 35. They settled in Clyde in 1959, built a house, several businesses and raised their three children, Lyn Self-Thompson, David S. Self and Delaine "DeeDee" Self Scott. Mozelle had a sweet kind spirit always smiling, but her strengths were as a mother, by instilling strong character and moral values in her children. Mozelle loved to read, crafts, flowers, travel and a good slot machine, but by far her family. She was married to George E. Sewell in 1995 until his passing in 2004 Mozelle is survived by sisters, Juanda Threlkeld, Patricia Keefer and husband Albert, and Margaret Nardone; brothers Douglas Watkins and wife Cova, Novle Watkins and wife Dianne; her three children, Lyn, David and DeeDee and honorary daughter Becky Rogers; step-children Keith Sewell and Cindy LaCour; grand children Amanda Shelnutt and husband Gary, Emily Drake, Sara Johnson and husband Joe, Zane Self and wife Molly, and Seth Scott; great grands Avery and Garrison Shelnutt, Claire,Emma and Cole Johnson and Baby Zoey Self. Mozelle is preceded in death by her parents; brothers James Watkins, George Watkins and Ronald Watkins; sister De Riherd, and son-in-law Tommy Thompson; husband George Sewell; and father of her three children David C. Self. The family wants to send a special Thank You to Cousin Paula Dean Tankersley, for all the love and support you gave us during this journey.
