Mildred Oakley

Thanks to A.W.R. for Parent links. Mildred Steele Oakley, 90, of 2602 Delta Church Rd, went to be with the Lord, Friday, July 8, 2011, at Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2011, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Terry Ragsdale officiating. Mildred was born December 12, 1920, in Stokes County, to the late Tom and Louvie Steele. She was a homemaker and farmer and had been a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church since 1940. She loved her family, church, and community with a special love. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Watson Oakley; a son, Lee Oakley; daughters, Carol Oakley and Gail Oakley Woods; and brothers, Danny, Hardy, and Bud Steele. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy McPherson and husband, Chuck of Atlanta; brothers, Richard Steele of Mayodan, Bruce Steele of Atlanta, and James "Red" Steele of Madison; sisters, Nancy Atkins and Dorothy Vaden, both of Mayodan; grandchildren, Catherine Norton, Terry Woods, Jennifer Woods Nordvladh. Connie Meredith, and Lee Oakley II. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel.
