About Mildred Barkemeyer
Mildred Joan See married Herman Barkemeyer, Jr. in 1950 (divorced in 1975). Herman was a graduate of Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, an Army veteran, and a retired employee of Electrical Generating Plant in Madison, Indiana. They had one son, William Herman Barkemeyer 1951-1995. Mildred See Barkemeyer attended Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas. She graduated from Indiana University Southeast at New Albany, Indiana in 1974 with a degree in nursing. In 1986, she graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois with a degree in Health Education. She retired from Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon, Georgia on disability after surgery for a benign brain tumor. (Bio taken from "See Genealogy - 2003" by Saunders, Newcomb, See-Barkemeyer, 2003.) Mildred, along with her cousins, Dorothy Saunders and Michael Newcomb, did much research into the See family history. She released her genealogical notes to the family in 2003. The trees she created have been converted to PDF files using Adobe Acrobat; one file for each of the four sons of James See and Elizabeth Henry. They are available on Ancestry.com. After her retirement, Mildred lived in Wilson County, Tennessee for several years. She served on the troop committee for Boy Scout Troop 127 in Watertown. Mildred expected her friend, Lew Wallace, to scatter her ashes with his family's. However, he was unable to do that, so Mildred's nephews decided to bury her ashes in Barnett cemetery next to the graves of her parents, William Henry and Ilma Ree See, and brother, Donald, surrounded by the graves of her ancestors going back five generations.
