About Michael Tresh
Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League Baseball as a catcher for twelve seasons (1938 to 1949) with the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians. Originally signed by the Detroit Tigers, he was a light hitting, highly skilled defensive catcher. He was traded with Marv Owen and Gee Walker to the White Sox in exchange for Vern Kennedy, Tony Piet and Dixie Walker on December 2, 1937. Extremely durable, he caught all 150 games in 1945 for the Chicago White Sox, and had caught 115 games or more each year from 1939 to 1941. Usually he batted around .250, but broke through with a career high of .281 in 1940. After his playing career, he scouted for the New York Yankees and later worked for the Ford Motor Company. His son Tom Tresh was an infielder-outfielder with the Yankees and Tigers. In 1,027 Major League games, he accrued a .249 lifetime average in 3,169 at bats with 788 hits, 2 home runs and 297 RBIs.
