Mary Kathleen (Tippy) Barnett June 19, 1942 ~ March 21, 2023 80 Years Old Mary Kathleen Barnett, 80, of Murphysboro and formerly of Hurst, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale. Burial will be in DeSoto City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the church. Mary was born June 19, 1942, in Carbondale, to Clifford and Helen (Gwaltney) Tippy. She married Bobby G. Barnett on October 22, 1960, in Carbondale. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Susan of Herrin, and Pamela of Herrin; son, Doug of Hurst; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, son-in-law; brothers, Clifford of Lake of Egypt, and David (Jane) of Murphysboro; and nieces, nephews, cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Ruth Thomas; and great-granddaughter, Kylee Smith. She had worked at J.C. Penney in the catalog department as well as for Williamson County Circuit Court for 4 years. Mary loved life! She was a people person who never met a stranger! She loved watching the Cardinals win, fishing, trips to Wal-mart, trips to the boat gambling and in her youth she enjoyed bowling. Mary had owned a restaurant in Cambria called Maribobs, that she and her husband had opened in the early 80's. Mary had a passion for food-both eating and cooking it-for others. She never missed a birthday for any of the residents of her nephew Larry's group home in West Frankfort baking cupcakes for them all. Her greatest joy was her family. She was happiest when she was with them. She loved her kids, grandkids and great- grandkids and she truly was a "great" grandmother to them all.
