About Marjorie Stringham

Marjorie Armstrong Stringham was reunited with her sweetheart, Bill, on May 3, 2022 after eight short months apart. She missed him every day and we are thankful to know, that as close as they were in life, they are now together again forever. Marjorie was born June 1, 1939, in Ephraim, Utah, to Curtis James Armstrong and Melba Kotter Armstrong. She was the third child and second daughter in Curtis and Melba's family. Marjorie loved growing up in Ephraim and shared stories of feeding the "bummer lambs" that her dad would bring home from the farm, riding her horse, Lightning, down the lane, and working in the Malt Shoppe. She learned the art of homemaking and music from her mother and was encouraged to master the violin. She learned to love fishing from her father and the two spent countless hours at Fish Lake and Otter Creek trolling behind the boat with their hand-carved paddles, four colors out and pop gear spinning, and being each other's fishing buddies. Marjorie attended Ephraim Elementary school, and at age 14 while attending Manti High School, she met the love of her life, Bill. They were inseparable. Both attended Snow College and upon graduation Bill served an LDS mission and Marjorie continued her education at Utah State College and Merrill Palmer Institute in Detroit, Michigan where she majored in early childhood and elementary education. She accepted a teaching position in American Fork, Utah and soon after Bill returned home, they were married on December 27, 1961, in the Manti Temple. She continued to teach while Bill completed his education and then the two moved to St. George, Utah. While they lived in St. George, Bill and Marjorie adopted their first two children, Margaret and Douglas Clair. They adopted their third child, Matthew Paul, while living in Bountiful, Utah. Marjorie was a life-long educator and spent over 25 years in the Davis School District teaching kindergarten and then 2nd grade. She loved watching her students learn, explore, and grow. As a teacher, she was honored for her exemplary educational contributions to students, colleagues, and community. She enjoyed the friendships that she cultivated with her teaching colleagues, many of which became friends for life. Marjorie retired after 30 years of dedicated service and outstanding accomplishments in May of 1996. Bountiful was home for 27 years but after retiring, Bill and Marjorie built their dream home in Woodland Hills, Utah. Here they discovered a fantastic group of friends, including "The Over The Hills Angels", who loved to explore the beautiful mountains and deserts in their RVs and on their four wheelers. In addition to exploring every corner of Utah, Bill and Marjorie explored the world together, finding adventures and friends wherever they went. Marjorie loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her testimony of the gospel and the Savior's example led her to a life of service in her many church callings as well as in her neighborhood and community. She and Bill loved serving their mission at Heber Valley Camp where they taught campers about the many creations around them and Heavenly Father's love for all of us. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Nate) Millward, son, Doug (Milaka) Stringham, son, Matt Stringham, seven grandchildren and their spouses and six great grandchildren, plus a wonderful extended family she loved and adored. While she loved the various roles of wife, mother, friend, and teacher, being a grandmother and affectionately called "Morgus" by her grandchildren and others was her favorite title of all. Many hours were spent in the kitchen baking favorite treats such as ginger snaps, raisin and lemon bars, and cowboy cookies. We will miss her many personalized cards with stick figure drawings that spoke more than words, her crazy sense of humor, and funny sayings. A viewing will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 9:00 to 10:45 am, followed by her funeral at 11:00 am at the Mount Loafer Ward, 220 South Woodland Hills Drive, Woodland Hills, Utah. Services can be viewed online at www.walkermemorials.com Burial will be in the Ephraim City Cemetery. Published by Deseret News from May 6 to May 11, 2022.
