Marjorie Epps

Marjorie Ellen (King) Epps was born in Satanta, Haskell County, Kansas, July 5, 1933, to Roy and Alice (Christensen) King. She passed away July 8, 2022, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community. She attended grade school at East Lawson in rural Grant County and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1950. She married Carl Epps of Goodhope, Missouri, on July 7, 1950. They enjoyed over 60 years together. Marjorie and Carl had four children, Ellen, Melanie, Lillian and Roy, all who attended Ulysses High School. Marjorie later graduated from Garden City Community College with a degree in nursing. She worked at the Stanton County Hospital and the old Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses. After Carl quit working, they bought a travel trailer and toured most of the southern states. They worked in the Big Bend National Park in West Texas. Later they moved to Terlingua, Texas, where they built and adobe house. Carl drove a shuttle bus for Big Bend River Tours. Later they moved to Alpine, Texas, and eventually settled in Odessa, Texas. Carl passed away at home in Odessa on December 22, 2010. After Carl died, Marjorie moved to the Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses. Survivors include daughters, Ellen Russell of Comanche, Oklahoma, Melanie Lee and husband David of Ulysses, Kansas, and Lillian Clement and husband James of Comanche, Oklahoma; son, Roy Epps and wife Susan of Meza, Arizona; and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marjorie is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ray Russell; grandson, Roger Lee; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Olsen. Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with Pastor Steve Swann, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial service will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home facebook page.
