About Mario Zacco
Mario Zacco was born to a farming family in Pontevico in the province of Brescia, Italy. He left home at a young age to commence an illustrious career as a restauranteur, moving throughout Italy, Switzerland and Germany. He served for the Italian Army in 1950, stationed in Palermo, and immigrated to Canada in 1952 where he met his loving wife of 53 years, Cecile Michaluk. Four years later, Mario and Cecile moved to New York City, where Mario worked for 9 years and started a family of his own. He moved to Connecticut in 1965 where he managed and owned several restaurants and hotels, including: the Corner House, Farmington Motor Inn, and Grist Mill in Farmington, the Rochambeau in Torrington, and the Pavillion in Cheshire (now known as Brix, owned by Mario's daughter Onella and her husband Bernard). Mario had a full career in the restaurant business, but carried his passion for good food and company with him everywhere and in all aspects of life. He could be found on any given afternoon of his retired life strolling through Farmington on his bike, playing golf with his grandsons, or enjoying a meal and story telling with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cecile; sisters Teonilda and Maria Teresa, daughters Onella Z. Gayraud and Alba Goss; their husbands Bernard Gayraud and Timothy Goss; his five grandchildren Lena, Andre, Alex, Andrew and Julie; and an adoring extended family in the US, Canada, and Italy. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (Sept. 22) at 10:00am in the Church of St. Patrick, Main St., Farmington followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.
