Wife of Arthur Ubbens. Marie Norman Ubbens, 80, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at her home of cancer. She was born in Carteret, New Jersey on March 2, 1928 and moved to Lake Wales 42 years ago from Lakeland. She retired after 35 years as an elementary school teacher at Spook Hill and Polk Avenue Schools. She was a member of the D.A.R., A.A.U.W. Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Lunch Bunch. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales and active in community volunteer work and international mission work in Mexico and Pakistan. Her husband Arthur Ubbens, daughter Barbara N. Pido of Winter Haven, son, Richard H. Norman and his wife Candace Jones Norman of Hickory, North Carolina, five stepchildren, her grandchildren Richard "Chip" Norman and Autumn N. Keppler, thirteen step grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, her brother Allen K. Wood of Clemson, South Carolina, brother-in-law Willard H. Norman, and her canine companion T.J. survive her. She was born in Carteret, N.J., on March 2, 1928 and moved to Lake Wales 42 years ago from Lakeland, Fla. Mrs. Ubbens retired after 35 years as an elementary school teacher. She was a member of the D.A.R., A.A.U.W., and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales and attended Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church of Blowing Rock. She was active in community volunteer work and international mission work in Mexico and Pakistan. Her husband Arthur Ubbens, daughter Barbara N. Pido of Winter Haven, son, Richard H. Norman and his wife, Candace Jones Norman, of Hickory, N.C., five stepchildren, her grandchildren Richard "Chip" Norman and Autumn N. Keppler, 13 step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, her brother Allen K. Wood of Clemson, S.C., brother-in-law Willard H. Norman, and her canine companion T.J. survive her. Her husbands, Harlen Norman and Julian Clary preceded her in death. Visitation was held Tuesday, May 13, 2008, from 9-11:00 a.m. before the service 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor David M. Rockness officiating. Interment followed at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. Memorials of remembrance may be made to Water's Edge of Lake Wales, 225 East Park Avenue, Lake Wales, FL 33853.
